Make old PHP applications safe to change again.
We move mature PHP systems onto a supported runtime without discarding working business logic. Version jumps, dependencies and code changes are separated into testable stages.
When the PHP version becomes a business risk
A runtime upgrade is rarely just a server change. Custom code, extensions, data access and libraries need to move together.
- The production PHP version no longer receives security updates.
- Hosting or operating systems need to change, but the application is tied to an old runtime.
- Composer dependencies are frozen, or the project has no dependable package management.
- Failures only appear after upgrades because tests and useful logs are missing.
What we assess and deliver
- Review of PHP, extensions, Composer packages and runtime configuration
- Inventory of incompatible language features, libraries and custom framework code
- Test and comparison strategy for critical business paths and data processing
- Staged code and dependency changes through to the supported target version
- Staging, deployment and rollback plan for the production switch
- Documented target state with remaining risks and maintenance work
Clear service boundaries
- Automated Rector rules help, but they do not verify business behavior.
- Unavailable proprietary extensions may require replacement development.
- Database and operating-system changes are planned as separate risks.
- A version upgrade does not automatically solve every structural problem in the application.
From assessment to a dependable result
- 01
Map the runtime
PHP, extensions, web server, database and libraries are captured in a reproducible setup.
- 02
Find breaking points
Static analysis, runtime tests and logs show what actually fails across the version change.
- 03
Upgrade in stages
Code and packages move through small version steps and are checked against critical behavior.
- 04
Switch production
The target runtime is released with monitoring, backups and a tested rollback path.
Make the rest of the system predictable too.
When coupling, missing tests or manual deployments still slow delivery, we continue the modernization after the PHP upgrade.
Explore software modernizationWhat to know before contacting us
Can PHP 7 be upgraded directly to PHP 8?
Often yes, but not blindly. The route depends on the minor release, extensions, libraries and custom code. We use intermediate steps where they reduce risk.
Will the application need downtime?
Assessment and changes happen in a separate environment. For production we plan either a short maintenance window or a parallel cutover, depending on data and architecture.
Do you work with custom PHP without a framework?
Yes. Custom PHP benefits from a careful inventory because its assumptions are rarely documented by a framework.
Can you maintain the application afterwards?
Yes. We can take on runtime updates, deployments, monitoring and further modernization within an agreed scope.
Put your application into context
Describe the application, stack and current goal. We will respond with an initial view of the most useful next step.
